This week marks - what I hope to be – the final time a stranger is given a code which accesses my front door key that he uses to come into my house and look in every room, every closet, behind the shower curtain and – for all I know – opens my refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, kitchen cupboards and notes whether my toothbrush is wet or not in the medicine cabinet.
Faucets are turned on and toilets flushed. Décor and wall colors are critiqued and your life – as your home reflects it – is open to every Tom, Dick and Harry to pass judgment on and – when no offer is made – dismiss without a backward glance as they move onto a flashy two story with stainless steel never recognizing the value of a solid raised ranch with a kitchen full of bisque.
At last count, over 60 people I have never seen before and don’t know from Adam have been in my home when no one’s there – and the police have never been called. Additionally, I have spent approximately 120 hours cleaning for these people and another 95 hours at my local Starbucks, walking the aisles of Wal-Mart or Dominick's, or sitting in my car like a stalker watching my own house waiting for them to leave.
Oh the joys of selling your home!
