Though Jubilee Furniture might not be an obvious inclusion in the standard all American list – there are lots of reasons why it should be.
The growth of this great country was through immigrants – and our customer base is incredibly diverse. You’ll hear multiple languages spoken at any given time and many of our customers are newly arrived to DuPage County from all over the world.
The very concept of Jubilee Furniture – recycling, repurposing – is consistent to our thrifty fore-fathers who threw little away and would be horrified if they looked in my garbage can every Friday (and I think of myself as being fairly garbage frugal).
Though our farming ancestors would have had little time to volunteer – our mainly volunteer staff would make a helping-simply-for-the-sake-of-helping minded nation smile.
Along those same lines, the fact the proceeds of what we sell at Jubilee Furniture (minus our expenses) are benefiting those most in need in DuPage County would make a baby US of A proud. Caring for the poor, the widow and the orphan would have been woven into every day life of most of our ancestors. Unfortunately, we’ve somewhat moved away from that but now have excellent organizations – like Outreach Community Ministries – to help meet the need.
Though you could argue about some of my “facts” (simply taken from having lived in the United States for 52 years and what I can remember from 8th grade history class) – the overarching principles are fairly accurate and, I think, rather compelling reasons to stop in at Jubilee Furniture either today from 1 to 8 or tomorrow from 9 to 4!
In case that didn’t shay you – how about a few photos of some of the amazing furniture you’ll find if you do come out! (Note – I had to pick up my husband from the train station last night so had to leave before I could complete all my pricing –I’ll arrive early today and finish – but which means I didn’t take photos of a lot of stuff because it wasn’t priced yet)
